Kai Cenat is a streaming juggernaut. From breaking records with his Elden Ring marathon to collaborating on Minecraft with IShowSpeed, Cenat has placed himself as a major face in space.

However, this past week has seen him dropping several hints that he might even abandon ship to pursue a full-time basketball career, and the latest X clip takes this to a whole new level.

On 22 September 2024, Cenat posted on X tweeted: “I’m quitting streaming and becoming a professional basketball player. Goodbye”.

that he’s going pro at basketball and teasing he was entering the pro draft on 27 September 2024. Of course, the real NBA Draft took place months ago in June. This is hype for Kai’s play-through of MyCareer of NBA 2K25.

The post confused the Kai community. Many first thought it was a joke since the post ended with a bang. A career like this wouldn’t be the first of its kind for one of the world’s greatest streamers. Yet, a few posts later seemed to confirm that indeed Kai has an intention to leave streaming for good.

Kai Cenat broke the news live on his Sekiro stream, “the marathon journey of gaming has been incredible”.  “You all may think I’m trolling, but listen to me, it’s time to take it up a notch”.  And continues, “I’m now completing stage 2 of becoming a professional basketball player. I get drafted in a few days. I’m in the lottery for a league. I am going to be playing in a professional basketball league; therefore, you will know where to catch me”. This YouTube video has been viewed over 527,000 times.

The video begins with a quote from the streamer, in which he said, “Don’t doubt the kid.” Then, the footage panned to a montage of clips that depict Cenat as a drafted NBA rookie. This consists of Cenat on stage after a match during a press conference; and images of different basketball jerseys, with the name Cenat featured on the back.

Cenat also said in the video, “I had a lot of support around me, so this is more like our year”.

In the two-and-a-half-minute promotional video, he imagined him being drafted twenty-five pick and wearing the number three jersey.
