Background: The Birth of the Portland Trail Blazers
In 1970, the NBA established the Portland Trail Blazers, along with expansion franchises Cleveland Cavaliers and Buffalo Braves, which are now known as the Los Angeles Clippers. The team was located in Portland, Oregon, which by the early 1970s had a reputation for a hyper-aggressive playing style and positive community relationships. The team name “Trail Blazers” was selected due to the Pioneering Spirit attached to the area and the region’s history of exploration.
The Moda Center is, under the former name of the Rose Garden, well known as the home of the Blazers and one of the most famous arenas in the NBA. Also, it is commonly referred to as one of the loudest arenas within the league and its passionate fans, Blazer Maniacs.
