From Buffalo Bisons to Atlanta Hawks: The Journey of The Hawks

The National Basketball League (NBL) team known as the Atlanta Hawks was established in 1946 as the Buffalo Bisons. The team was established in Buffalo, New York. However, after 38 days in Buffalo, the team moved to Moline, Illinois, where they were renamed the Tri-Cities Blackhawks. 

Later, in 1951, the team moved to Milwaukee, where the team played under the name of Milwaukee Hawks. Again, the Hawks shifted to St. Louis in 1955, hence changing their name to St. Louis Hawks. There they won their first, and only NBA Championship in 1958. Finally, in 1968, the St. Louis Hawks shifted to Atlanta where Atlanta Hawks owners, Ben Kerner and Leo Ferris sold the franchise to Thomas Cousins and former Georgia Governor Carl Sanders.

The Atlanta Hawks have produced excellent players who have demonstrated their ability under the mentoring and guidance of many coaches, some of whom have won the world with their play. These players later provided coaching to the team. 

Currently, Quin Snyder is the head coach for the Atlanta Hawks. He is assisted by assistant coaches Igor Kokoskov, Bryan Bailey, Jeff Watkinson, Sanjay Lumpkin, and a few others.
