The NBA fined Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards $25,000 on Monday for using abusive language during a media interview. Edwards’ comments came after the Timberwolves’ 107-90 victory over Golden State on Friday.
This season, Edwards has averaged 26.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Minnesota got a start this season with a 12-11 record after reaching the Western Conference Finals the previous year.
The incident occurred during the Timberwolves’ postgame media availability following their 107-90 victory over Golden State on Friday night. In the triumph, Edwards scored 30 points on 11 of 18 shooting.
“Naz [Reid] and Julius [Randle] is f—ing playing defence,” Edwards said to Timberwolves reporter Dane Moore while being interviewed in the team’s locker room. “You know, I’ve never seen [Julius] play defence before. So that’s f— incredible, he be guarding his [expletive] off.”
This is the second time the NBA has fined Edwards this season for profanity. His first fine of the season occurred in mid-November, when he made an obscene gesture on the floor after his team’s NBA Cup victory over the Sacramento Kings. He was fined $35,000.
In January 2024, Edwards was fined $40,000 for “repeatedly publicly criticizing the officiating” after a 107-101 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Anthony Edwards is in great form this season; he is averaging a career-high 26.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in 23 starts in the NBA 2024-25.
